In 2021, the “Women in Rental” initiative was created to serve as a network of support and career growth for women who work in the Tool Rental Department of stores across the country. Hear how associate Dom Figueroa was inspired to start this resource group and enable the women of The Home Depot to empower one another.

DOM's Story
A lot of people see me as a girly girl, and I love shocking them. I love being able to roll up my sleeves, get in the fight, get dirty, sweat, or glisten, as we like to say. And I love seeing surprised looks on people's faces when they're like, “Oh my gosh, there's no way she's gonna finish that” and I get to the end and I'm like “You were saying?” And so that to me is really, really, self-motivating. When somebody thinks I can't do something, and I rise to that challenge, there's nothing that's gonna stop me. I will die trying. I love it.
Hi, I am Dominicana Figueroa. I am the Regional Rental Manager for Pac Mountain Desert in the Western Division. I've been with The Home Depot for five years now, and I am a founding member of Women in Rental. When I first applied for this role, my leader at the time, after I had been told, “Yup, you got it, congratulations,” shared with me that I was the first female regional rental manager in the history of the company. I was like, really, I'm the first one? And I was like, well, that's kind of exciting, but I guess there's a short line at the bathroom, but I want more women to get involved. There's a whole candidate pool that we aren't tapping into, that we need to include, and I thought, what an exciting opportunity to set the tone and really be the first leader in that rental environment with all male peers to show them what we bring to the table as women.
I think women are nurturers... I know I am, I can't speak for everyone, but for me, I think having somebody show you that it's okay to be vulnerable, it's okay to have a more soft or gentle approach to accomplishing a goal. The Women in Rental Patch to me is…. it's a symbol of community, it's a symbol of overcoming like self-imposed fear.
When I go out and I'm walking stores and I'm handing these patches out to the women… to see their faces light up and go, “Oh my gosh, there's a patch for me?”
It's just a sense that there is a sense of community with you. We're all there in the room with you, and you're not alone. So, if there was one key message that I would hope that somebody would take away, it's automatically include yourself.
Automatically include yourself and make them tell you no, there really isn't a lot that you can't do if you put your mind to it and you're willing to put in the work. So go for it.

Path to Pro: Breaking Stereotypes
Only ~11% of construction workers are women. At The Home Depot, we’re on a continued mission to fill the skilled labor gap. That’s why The Home Depot built the Path to Pro Program to help expand and provide accessibility to training.
The Home Depot Foundation has pledged to invest $50 million to help diversify the trades industry through its Path to Pro programs.
